Finding a therapist involves more than finding an available appointment.
The way a therapist listens, understands problems, approaches emotion, works with relationships, and thinks about change can have a meaningful impact on the experience of therapy.
For this reason, new-client requests for the first assessment session (50-55 minutes) begin with a short application before scheduling.
There are 4 steps to the process. We will walk you through each step.
Let’s get started!

STEP 1: Review Information Before You Begin

Before you start the application, please review the resources and information provided below. You need to confirm your completion to access the whole application.
The application will remain available while you explore these materials. There is no need to rush.
Please review the following:

  • Virtual-Only and Your Location

Please note that our practice is Telehealth-only, so all sessions will be remote.

For U.S. residents: during the session, you need to be physically located in one of the following states where Biyang is Licensed:  AlaskaCaliforniaConnecticutWashington D.C., FloridaIllinoisNew Jersey, and Vermont.

  • Fees and Insurance

For Private/Self Pay: If you are paying out-of-pocket, we can provide a Superbill for out-of-network reimbursements.

Insurance: We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans (including Horizon, Anthem, and FL Blue). You must call your insurance company directly to verify coverage and benefits using the following information: zip code (“60602” or “60610”), name (“Biyang Wang”), and company (“TheXponential PLLC”).

A note on payment for Online Appointment Scheduling

If you are booking your first assessment session (55 minutes), a card on file is required to submit this application. You won’t be charged for this application. The card is on file for future session fees and for our 48-hour cancellation policy late fee of $175 (explained in Step 3).

  • Current General Availability

Through the fall, availability is Sunday through Wednesday after 6:30 PM U.S. Pacific Time. Exact time slots may vary weekly and monthly.

You can access additional information on our Questions & Answers page (FAQ).

STEP 2: Understand the Application

What to expect:

Once you’ve reviewed all the information provided above and would like to move forward with working with Biyang, you will click on the “Submit an Application” button at the bottom of this page.
Please read through the remaining steps before you apply.

Selecting an appointment allows you to continue to the application; your request is not submitted until you complete and submit the entire process.

When you begin the application, we will ask you to reflect on topics including:

  • What is bringing you to therapy now
  • What you have already tried and what has or has not helped
  • Previous experiences with therapy and what you took from them
  • What stood out to you in our therapeutic approach and resources
  • Questions, reservations, or areas of uncertainty that remain
  • What meaningful change might eventually look like for you
  • Practical fit, including location, scheduling, insurance, and payment
The actual questions are intentionally more reflective than this overview.
You do not need to prepare answers in advance.

Clarity is not a prerequisite for starting therapy; it’s a product of exploration and reflection.

These questions are part of our process for getting to know prospective clients, but reflection can also be useful in its own right.

Even if we ultimately determine that working together is not the right fit, we hope the process helps you clarify what you are looking for in therapy and what matters to you in choosing a therapist.

STEP 3: Review Scheduling and Appointment Policies

You will see the calendar before the full application.

You may select an available time to continue to the application and review the questions before submitting anything. Selecting a time to view the application does not mean your request has been accepted.

Please submit an appointment request only for a time that you could actually attend.

If none of the current openings work but our general availability could work for you, you may still submit an application without selecting an appointment.

Current Openings vs. Ongoing Availability

The online calendar shows current first-appointment openings. Availability may change as appointments are added, schedules change, or cancellations create new openings, so you are welcome to check again later.

The appointment you request is for your initial assessment only. Requesting or receiving a particular first-appointment time does not reserve that day or time as an ongoing weekly appointment.

If we mutually decide to continue working together after the initial assessment, we will discuss an ongoing schedule based on your needs and the practice’s then-current availability.

Before applying, please make sure that the general availability listed on our website could reasonably work for ongoing therapy.

Pending Online Appointment Requests and 48-hour Cancellation Policy

We generally aim to review new appointment requests within 24 hours.

However, review times may vary.

While your request is pending, you may withdraw it at any time. If your availability changes, you can no longer attend the requested appointment, or you are no longer able to wait for a decision, please cancel the pending request through the scheduling system or email the practice before the request is accepted. We will honor the time your cancellation message was sent.

If you leave a request active and the practice accepts it, the applicable cancellation policy begins at the time of acceptance.

  • If the appointment was originally requested more than 48 hours in advance and is accepted with more than 48 hours remaining, the 48-hour cancellation policy applies.
  • If the appointment was originally requested more than 48 hours in advance but is accepted with fewer than 48 hours remaining, the 24-hour cancellation policy applies.
  • If you submit a request for an appointment that is already less than 48 hours away, you are requesting a short-notice appointment. If the request is accepted while still active, the applicable late-cancellation or missed-appointment fee will apply regardless of how much time remains before the appointment.
Submitting a request does not itself confirm an appointment. A request remains pending until it is accepted by the practice.

STEP 3:  Start Your Request / What Happens Next

Applications are reviewed within 1 business day and you will receive an email notification.
Please note that by submitting this application for scheduling your first appointment, you are confirming the following:
  • I understand that therapy has both benefits and limits.
  1. I understand that sessions are confidential except for HIPAA-defined exceptions, which I will review in full intake paperwork.
  2. I understand this is a Telehealth practice. I will attend from a private space, and no recording or transcription is permitted.
  3. I will be attending from one of the 8 states where Biyang is licensed to practice, unless separate arrangements have been made and agreed upon by all parties.
  4. I understand the 24-hour cancellation policy (48 hours for the first session). If I cancel, reschedule, or miss my appointment, I am responsible for the $175 (USD) fee charged to my card on-file the same day of  the session. There are no exceptions.
  5. If my appointment is scheduled within the 48 hour window, I understand the practice will hour the 24-hour cancellation timeframe.
  6. If my appointment is accepted within the 24-hour cancellation period, I will be responsible for the fee if I decide to cancel, reschedule, or miss my appointment.
  7. I understand a card on file is required, and that if we determine we are not the right fit, my card information will be deleted within 3 business days.

Submitting this application will act as your electronic signature.

Your request and application will be reviewed before the appointment is finalized.

You will receive an email notification of your appointment status from our Client Portal.

If the practice appears appropriate for what you are seeking, you will receive the remaining intake and informed-consent documents through the secure Client Portal. We ask that all paperwork be completed prior to your first assessment to maximize the available time.  You will receive a calendar invitation with a Zoom video link within 24 hours of your time.

If additional clarification would be useful before confirming the appointment, we may contact you or offer a brief conversation.

If the practice is unable to provide the service you need, you will be notified.

Thank you again for your interest!
We appreciate you taking the time to explore our resources and share your experiences.
We look forward to reading your responses!
