General
What's the difference between Psychotherapy vs. Psychological Coaching & Consulting?
Psychotherapy:
Psychotherapy is usually used when a mental health diagnosis is present, such as anxiety, depression, anxiety, or similar conditions. There is a focus on symptom management and helping the client re-establish baseline functioning. Appropriate when clients require stability before deeper coaching work.
Psychological Coaching and Consulting:
Engages clients in identifying underlying issues and insights for clients to explore their potential beyond baseline functioning.
Psychological Coaching and Consulting is a professional relationship and does not create a psychotherapy, counseling, diagnosis, or treatment relationship.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy is worth considering when something in your life looks fine on the outside, but does not feel quite right on the inside.
That may show up as anxiety, burnout, relationship strain, overthinking, emotional numbness, perfectionism, difficulty resting, or a persistent sense that you are always managing something. Sometimes people come to therapy because they are in crisis. Other times they come because they are functioning well, but know they are carrying more than they can keep carrying alone.
The question is not whether you feel “bad enough” for therapy.
The better question is whether you want to understand what is shaping your choices, your relationships, and your internal life more clearly.

What kind of clients do you work with?
We work with individuals who are thoughtful, highly-capable, and often externally successful, but internally carrying a great deal of pressure.
Many of our clients are professionals, leaders, founders, creatives, clinicians, academics, and people navigating multicultural or immigrant backgrounds. Some are in a major transition. Some are trying to better understand themselves. Some are dealing with relationship issues, identity questions, family pressure, or the emotional cost of keeping everything together.
We are especially attuned to clients who do not want generic advice. They want depth, clarity, and a space where the whole story can be understood.
What is your therapeutic approach?
Our work is psychodynamic, culturally informed, and practical.
That means we pay close attention to patterns, not just symptoms. We look at how early relationships, family expectations, identity, and repeated ways of coping continue to shape the present. We also stay grounded in the realities of your current life, because insight is only useful if it connects back to how you live, work, and relate.
We are not interested in surface-level reassurance. We are interested in helping you see what is actually happening underneath the surface.
What makes your style different?
Our style is direct, thoughtful, and collaborative.
We do not believe therapy should be vague, overly passive, or unnecessarily abstract. At the same time, we do not believe it should be reduced to tips, scripts, or quick fixes.
Clients often come to us because they want someone who can think carefully with them, ask sharper questions, and help them understand themselves in a more honest way. That is especially important for people who are capable in many areas of life, but have not had enough space to work through what they are carrying internally.
Do you see people in-person?
Not currently.
We are fully remote and provide telehealth services. Sessions are conducted online through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform.
For many clients, this format offers convenience, continuity, and privacy without sacrificing depth of work.
Where do I need to live in order to access your Therapy services?

Do you work with people living outside the United States?
Yes, in some cases.
Biyang is licensed to practice in select U.S. states and also works with certain international clients, including digital nomads, expatriates, and people living or traveling abroad. Eligibility depends on where you are physically located and the laws that apply there.
If you are outside the U.S. or moving frequently, please contact us directly so we can clarify what is possible.
Do you work with people who are not in crisis?
Yes.
In fact, many people begin therapy before they are in crisis.
Some come because they want to prevent things from getting worse. Some come because they are noticing patterns they no longer want to repeat. Some come because life is stable on paper, but something inside feels unresolved.
Therapy is not only for moments of collapse. It can also be for reflection, deeper self-understanding, and long-term growth.
Do you work with executives, founders, and high performers?
Yes.
We often work with people who are highly capable in their professional lives, but feel disconnected, overextended, or under pressure in ways that are harder to name. For high performers, the issue is not always that something is “wrong.” Sometimes the issue is that the strategies that once made them successful are no longer enough for what they are asking of themselves now.
Therapy can be a place to think more clearly about leadership, pressure, decision-making, relationships, and the emotional cost of performance.
Do you work with multicultural, Asian American, and AAPI clients?
Yes.
This is one of our core areas of expertise.
We understand that culture shapes identity, family expectations, emotional expression, achievement pressure, and the way people seek help. Many clients from AAPI and multicultural backgrounds are carrying a mix of ambition, loyalty, pressure, restraint, and the need to appear capable even when they are struggling internally.
That complexity matters in therapy.
We do not treat culture as a side note. We see it as part of the psychological frame.
What happens in the beginning of treatment?
The early phase of therapy is usually about getting a clearer understanding of who you are, what brings you in, and what pattern of support will be most useful.
That may include several initial sessions to assess fit, clarify goals, and understand what kind of work makes the most sense. We pay attention not only to what you say, but to how you relate, what feels difficult to say, and what themes seem to repeat.
The goal is not to rush. The goal is to understand.
How often do sessions happen?
Most clients begin with weekly sessions.
Consistency matters, especially at the beginning of treatment. It helps build momentum and gives the work enough continuity to go deeper. As treatment progresses, the frequency can sometimes be adjusted based on your needs, goals, and what is happening in your life.
We decide that together, in conversation.
How much does therapy cost?
Session fees vary depending on the type of service, length of session, and method of care.
The starting rate for a standard 45-53 minute individual session is $260+ (USD).
Please note that the first three (3) appointments are assessments sessions. Assessment sessions last longer than regular sessions.
We offer in-network coverage for select plans and also provide self-pay options. If you have out-of-network benefits, we can provide a superbill for possible reimbursement, depending on your plan.
Because insurance coverage and payment details can vary, we recommend confirming your benefits directly with your insurer before starting treatment.
Do you take health insurance?
Yes, for select plans.
We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Blue Choice PPO, and UChicago’s USHIP plan. Some Blue Cross Blue Shield plans may appear under different names depending on the state or carrier network.
If you are unsure whether your plan is included, the best next step is to check with your insurance provider directly or contact us for guidance.
What if I am paying out of pocket?
Self-pay clients are responsible for the full fee at the time of service.
We accept most major credit cards, HSA/FSA cards, direct transfers, and other electronic payment methods. If you would like to discuss payment options, that can be part of the initial consultation.
Do you offer sliding scale or reduced-fee options?
In some cases, yes.
There are a limited number of reduced-fee spots available, and they are not always open. If affordability is a concern, it is still worth asking. We also offer some package options depending on the service and current availability.
What Is Your Cancellation Policy?
Depending on the nature of your service, we ask for at least 24 or 48 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling.
If a session is canceled late or missed without sufficient notice, the full fee is charged. This protects the time reserved for your appointment and allows the slot to potentially be offered to another client.
What if I do not know exactly what I need?
That is very common.
You do not need to arrive with a perfectly formed explanation of your problem. Many people know that something feels off, but do not yet have language for it. Part of the work is helping you identify what is happening, what it is connected to, and what kind of support would actually be useful.
You do not need to have the full story before starting. You just need enough curiosity to begin.
How do I know if we are a good fit?
Fit matters a great deal.
Therapy works best when there is a combination of trust, clarity, and a style that makes sense for you. That does not mean you will agree with everything the therapist says. It does mean you should feel that the work is thoughtful, safe enough to be honest in, and serious enough to matter.
If you are looking for a space that is too loose or too formulaic, we may not be the right fit. If you are looking for a therapist who can think deeply with you, challenge you when needed, and stay grounded in real conversation, there may be a strong fit.
How do I know if therapy is actually helping?
Progress in therapy is not always dramatic.
Sometimes it looks like greater self-awareness. Sometimes it looks like fewer automatic reactions. Sometimes it looks like being able to pause before repeating an old pattern. Sometimes it looks like better boundaries, more honest communication, or a clearer understanding of why certain situations keep activating you.
Not all progress feels comfortable in the moment. Sometimes therapy is helping even when it feels challenging. Over time, the better question is not simply whether you feel better right away, but whether you are understanding yourself and responding to life with more clarity and flexibility.
