About Biyang (碧玚)

Biyang (she/her) has always been drawn to people’s stories, not ones with a predictable plot line that culminates in a magical happily-ever-after, but those that speak the truth about the joys and complexities of being human; where beauty is not in perfection, but in overcoming the struggle.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), her approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that authenticity and emotional resilience emerge through the process of embracing who we truly are, beyond societal pressures and expectations.

A Journey Toward Authenticity

Biyang (碧玚) moved to the U.S. with her family at 9 years old. As an 1.5-generation Asian American, Biyang’s had to grapple with the challenges, joys, and complexities of growing up at the intersection of 2 cultures, each with a distinct set of customs and ideals. This is an important part of her own personal narrative, and what drives her passion for helping others build emotional resilience and a strong personal identity.
After supporting her peers during college as. Healthy Minds Advisor, exploring psychology and neuroscience courses, and volunteering with hospital patients, Biyang realized her calling: to help others face their inner struggles and empower them to reclaim their lives, and become the Hero in their own stories of courage, love, and resilience. She believes that therapy is not about quick fixes, but rather about unpacking the layers that prevent us from being our most authentic selves.

Education & Clinical Training

  • Bachelor’s in Psychology & Neuroscience – Princeton University
  • Master’s in Social Work – University of Chicago, Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice
  • Fellowship in Advanced Psychodynamic Practice and Consultation – University of Chicago, Post Graduate Training
Biyang’s education combined with her clinical experience has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of the mind-body connection and the ways societal conditioning shapes our behaviors, beliefs, and relationships. This informs her therapeutic approach — helping clients untangle the messages they’ve internalized from family, culture, and society, to live more authentically and align with their true values.

Therapeutic Approach: Contemporary Psychodynamic Theory

Biyang’s therapeutic approach is rooted in contemporary psychodynamic theory, which views emotional struggles as a product of early life experiences and internalized societal norms. Her approach integrates a range of techniques to help clients:
  • Identify and unpack internalized beliefs that may no longer serve them
  • Build emotional resilience by embracing vulnerability, feelings, and intuition
  • Rediscover their authentic self without the weight of “shoulds,” expectations or the need to please others
  • Find purpose and joy in pursuing their true hopes and desires
Therapy with Biyang is not just about analyzing the past; it’s about creating a roadmap for emotional freedom — one that allows you to embrace who you truly are and cultivate a life filled with purpose, joy, and authenticity.

Clinical Experience

Biyang’s diverse clinical background has provided her with the opportunity to work across several settings, including:
  • University counseling centers
  • Social service agencies
  • Employee Assistance Programs

  • Global counseling and consulting
She provides services in both English and Chinese (Mandarin).

Clinical Expertise

Biyang specializes in working with individuals from diverse and mixed cultural, racial, and immigration backgrounds, particularly those within the Asian and AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) communities.
Her expertise lies in addressing issues related to identity, life transitions, self-esteem, and the search for purpose and fulfillment.

Biyang’s Global Journey: Living Authentically

In 2018, Biyang took her commitment to authenticity and personal growth one step further by embarking on a journey across Asia. She lived in a different country each month, including Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. This adventure allowed her to grow emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually, learning firsthand how to integrate work with cultural exploration, build relationships, and step outside her comfort zone. Each day presented a new challenge, each an opportunity to understand herself more deeply and expand her vision of what is possible.
After the pandemic, Biyang continued her journey by living in over 45 countries around the world, embracing a digital nomad lifestyle. As a location-independent psychotherapist, Biyang integrates her core values of freedom, courage, service, and purpose into both her personal and professional life. She encourages her clients to do the same — challenging them to overcome limitations, push past self-doubt, and pursue their passions.

Philosophy: "It is a Journey, Not a Quick Fix"

Therapy is a deeply personal journey, and authenticity takes time to uncover. Biyang’s approach is based on the belief that understanding and owning your True Self requires emotional courage, patience, and commitment. The process is not a fast track to a “perfect life” — it’s about slowly peeling back the layers that have built up over time, to reveal the genuine you.
Biyang works with individuals, couples, and families, helping them navigate life transitions, improve emotional well-being, and build healthy relationships. By understanding the patterns that have shaped your life and challenging the limitations placed upon you, therapy can become a powerful tool for personal growth.
